Revisiting Important Elements

Updated: Feb 26, 2023

This last week was grinding and getting feedback on the direction of our project. We had to focus a lot of our energy on the big-picture exhibition, which side-tracked my progress a bit.

Interview Logs

Since we started our interviews early, we could translate them into a designed document rather than just a log. Katherine did the designs based on the identity I started researching last week. We were able to gather a lot of insights on how our design direction could go, and having it all together in a visually cohesive document allows us to easily sift through all the information we collected. I included a screenshot of this document.

Process

I started to apply our color palette direction to this Website to start making our visual identity cohesive. As well as to easily see if the colors work when applied to a larger system like a website. Alongside this, I chatted with Hu about the direction we wanted to take and got feedback on it. The main takeaway is that it is hard to make a cohesive design brief if we do not fully know what the result will manifest as. I know we want to make a printed guide on sustainable fashion, and a service to teach people on this matter, but how will that manifest itself?

I think this is where I will keep digging into the exercises I did last week while comparing them to the interview logs. Hopefully, by the end of this week and the next blog post, we will have decided on that direction.

Reading of the Week

This week's reading is a bit of a throwback, but it is actually a recording of an artist talk we attended a couple of weeks ago. NSCAD uploaded it recently to their channel, and you can watch it here.

This artist's talk was very insightful and something I think most people should listen to. Jennifer Green brings up the importance of community and how the textile industry in Nova Scotia is just not where it used to be in the early 1900s. She brings up the fact that it is one of the pillars of her practice and it should be taught more locally.

Next Steps...

For the reading week, I will be designing and putting together our design brief, since Katherine designed the interview logs. We will also keep looking at the content we want to include in this project and what our identity should be.
