Nearing the finish line

After making our revisions to the guide we were able to show our updated guide to Hu. He was really pleased with how we went about the edits and we made some really quick adjustments to make it all come together.

In our meeting we mostly talked about how we can best present our work in the exhibition. We already printed our vinyl and I was able to complete the tutorial example piece on schedule like I hoped, but something was still missing—Hu suggested printing our spreads and displaying them on the wall beneath our vinyl. We loved the idea and selected 6 spreads to display:

We wanted to select spreads that represented our features the best like the different layouts, image treatments, illustrative elements, etc. Having these along with the physical guide will benefit us by giving exhibition guests a teaser of our content by displaying our highlights spread open like this, hopefully making people want to interact with the whole book once their interest is peaked.

A hiccup we encountered with printing our guide this time was that it kept printing in the wrong orientation and then we got it the right orientation but the gutters were too wide, all because none of us remembered what the print shop tech did to format the file or the paper it was printed on the first time. Our lesson learned was to always record information like this, especially when there is troubleshooting involved to print from the beginning.

Next steps...

For Tuesday's class we'll have our FINAL final guides printed, bind those by hand, and begin prepping for Friday's presentation. We'll also get our business cards printed and prep the 6 display spreads. We're so close!
