Draft 1

This week in class Caitlyn and I printed out our first draft of our Nova Scotia-based sustainable fashion guide. We laid everything out for our meeting with Hu to get feedback on layout.

Printing the pages out enabled us to visualize what things were working and what wasn't. We all really enjoy the overlapping of images in the local initiative section and the variations of zoomed in and out photos spread throughout. Some little decisions we decided on were to stick to having "mending matters" only in the footer of the left pages in spreads and have page numbers in opposite far corners.

Our main takeaway was to let loose a bit by differentiating the layout of separate sections even further than we already have. An interesting suggestion was to add more implied texture and tactility throughout since we're asking our audience to engage in a very tactile and immersive activity. I think this can be explored through paper finishes or layering images in the background for a visual effect. I will be exploring different colours and textures for the background of different sections, and playing with the image orientation for the tutorials while developing our next draft which we will review next Tuesday, March 28th.

Next steps...

For next week I will have the second draft of the booklet ready to review with a table of contents and Caitlyn will have a proper svg version of our logo and will update our blog website to house our guidebook. I also intend to start sourcing materials I need to create an example of our tutorials for our exhibition display.
